Payroll Business Analyst
Are you a seasoned Payroll Analyst ready to step into a pivotal role on a major transformation programme?
We’re looking for a confident and capable payroll professional to join a high-performing team delivering a new HRIS and payroll solution for A large government entity delivering essential services across Aotearoa. This is a fixed-term opportunity through to December 2026, supporting the build and implementation of Dayforce aPay and Workday.
You’ll be joining a team of experienced payroll analysts as the build phase kicks in. The environment is complex, encompassing 24/7 operations, intricate terms and conditions, and a parallel compliance remediation project. You’ll work across multiple workstreams: payroll, HRIS, integration, data, reporting, and testing, supporting vendor delivery and internal readiness.Strong legislative understanding, including being able to understand the grey areas, will be key to success.
This is not a role for someone first getting into the space, we need someone who can hit the ground running and bring real depth of payroll knowledge.
Key Responsibilities- Support the build and configuration of Dayforce aPay to reflect a complex payroll environment
- Lead and contribute to testing, data validation, and parallel pay runs
- Translate business requirements into system configurations and test cases
- Collaborate across workstreams and with vendors to ensure delivery outcomes
- Identify and manage risks, issues, and dependencies across the programme
- Provide subject matter expertise on payroll legislation and compliance
- Deep payroll experience in large, complex environment
- Strong understanding of NZ payroll legislation and Holidays Act compliance
- Proven experience in payroll system implementation or transformation projects
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-change environments
- Self-starter with strong planning, documentation, and delivery skills
- Experience with Dayforce aPay or similar platforms is a bonus

- Hybrid working with a Wellington base preferred
- Salary $130k–$140k depending on experience
