About the role

Meet the challenge of working with children and adolescents and their family / whanau who access the South Community Outreach Team (Child, Adolescent Family Mental Health Service).

This is a specialist team that provides assessment and treatment of young people up to 18 years of age who present with serious mental health problems, and their families. You'll be a key clinician working as part of the multidisciplinary team, providing comprehensive psychiatric assessment, case management and therapeutic intervention for our clients - young people who have complex and changing needs.

Role available:

  • Permanent, part-time 0.6FTE position, the specific arrangement of these hours will be discussed and mutually agreed upon.

Skills Experience

The clinicians on the Team have a range of skills and areas of clinical expertise- we'll provide you with a great opportunity to enhance your skills in a specialty area.

Travel will be required to our Outreach clinic - we cover Christchurch to Ashburton and would consider someone who lives in that area but who can travel to Christchurch on a weekly basis for team meetings. More time would be needed in Christchurch initially to build knowledge and skills.

  • Registered Social Worker;
  • Have completed or on a pathway to complete a post graduate qualification relevant to this role;
  • Ideally have experience in outpatient case management (assessment and treatment), mental health and supporting and championing change in clinical settings as part of a team;
  • Whakawhanaungatanga (ability to forge and foster relationships);
  • Whakamanaakitanga (ability to treat others with respect, encouragement and support);
  • Whakakotahitanga (ability to work in your role and actively participate and align this to our organisational values and goals.

Using an MDT approach, the team implement a range of interventions to support people in their journey.

Working collaboratively with young people, their whanau and other significant people in their lives to ensure they have access to a high standard of care and are able to achieve equitable healthcare outcomes in their journey.

About You
  • You will have an interest in working with consumers who have a dual diagnosis;
  • Be a strong team player who can also practice autonomously;
  • Able to promote the Social Work perspective and advocate for your consumers;
  • Excellent mental health assessment skills;
  • Highly developed communication skills and an ability to connect with others in a meaningful and therapeutic manner;
  • Be a positive, compassionate and caring person with a genuine desire to work with this consumer group;
  • You must have a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) scoped for mental health.
