Masterton District Council is seeking a dynamic Communication & Engagement Manager to lead our small but high-performing team in delivering modern, effective, and inclusive communications. This is a pivotal role where you'll shape Council’s voice, drive digital transformation, and foster meaningful engagement with our community and stakeholders.
What you'll lead:- Development and delivery of Council’s integrated communication and engagement strategy
- Digital-first initiatives across platforms, including AI-driven content and advanced engagement tools
- Strategic relationships with iwi, government agencies, media, and regional partners
- High-profile, high-risk communication programmes and crisis response
- A talented team of advisors and creatives, building capability and delivering measurable results

- Relevant degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field with 7+ years senior-level experience.
- Proven experience in internal and operational communication and engagement development and implementation.
- Experience with community engagement frameworks and statutory consultation processes.
- Demonstrated success in stakeholder relationship management at executive level.
- Advanced proficiency in digital engagement platforms (e.g., Social Pinpoint).
- Experience with AI platforms for content creation and data analysis (e.g., MS Copilot, Canva AI).
- Proficiency in web content management systems (preferably Datacom products).
- Advanced understanding of digital marketing tools (Google Analytics, Google Ads, social media management platforms).
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and inclusive design principles.
- Understanding of data privacy and digital security requirements.
- Experience coaching senior council staff and elected members in media and public presentation skills.
