Waikato Hospital, a leading tertiary healthcare provider in New Zealand's Waikato region, is seeking a skilled and dedicated Spine Surgeon to join our Spine Service.

We are interested in talking to Spinal Specialists with either an Orthopaedic or Neurosurgery background. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patient lives while working in a supportive, environment.

The role requires a candidate who would be able to provide expert surgical and non-surgical care for a wide range of spinal conditions, including degenerative diseases, trauma, and tumours.
  • Perform advanced procedures, including minimally invasive spine surgery and complex spinal reconstructions.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of orthopaedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, physiotherapists, and pain specialists.
  • Contribute to clinical teaching, research and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in on-call rosters for acute spinal and trauma cases and participate in the Orthopaedic or Neurosurgery call roster.

About you
  • Proven expertise in spinal surgery, including minimally invasive techniques and complex cases.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities. Commitment to patient-centered care and cultural sensitivity, particularly with Maori and Pacific communities.
  • FRACS (Orthopaedics or Neurosurgery) or equivalent specialist qualification, with subspecialty training in spine surgery.
  • Eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
  • Innovative, adaptable, and passionate about advancing spinal care through clinical excellence and research.
