***Light Vehicle Technician needed in ANTARCTICA***
Flights + Accommodation + Meals (Full time for the summer season, approximately October 2026 - February 2027)
Hays Recruitment is seeking experienced Light Vehicle Technicians for a rare opportunity to work at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. This role offers a level of challenge, purpose and adventure that simply cannot be matched in a standard workshop environment.

About the Opportunity.
You will join a specialist maintenance team responsible for keeping essential vehicles and equipment operational in one of the most remote and unique environments on Earth. This is a full on site deployment; you will live and work on the ice for the duration of the assignment.

- Inspect, service and repair light vehicles, snowmobiles and associated equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical and computer related faults using modern diagnostic tools
- Maintain accurate service and inspection records
- Operate workshop equipment including welders, compressors, presses and wheel alignment machinery
- Perform preventative maintenance and recovery operations in extreme outdoor conditions
- Work across day, night or swing shifts depending on operational requirements
- Participate in community duties such as cleaning, recycling and general station upkeep
- NZ Certificate in Automotive Engineering (Level 4) or recognised overseas equivalent
- Minimum 2 years' experience in light vehicle maintenance
- Broad experience across a range of vehicles; Ford experience is highly valued
- Full New Zealand driver licence
- New Zealand citizenship, permanent residency or valid NZ work rights (no sponsorship available, but we accept WHV - with relevant experience)
- Ability to pass medical, dental, drug testing and criminal background checks
- Physically capable of lifting, climbing, working outdoors and operating in extreme cold
- Comprehensive medical and dental assessments
- Criminal and security checks
- Required vaccinations (including flu and TDAP)
