We have an opportunity for a Baker. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about making sourdough/yeasted bread!

The ideal baker is responsible for the preparation of all baked goods including naturally leavened and yeast breads . They will prepare all breads in accordance with our recipes and standards. In addition, the baker will clean bakery equipment.

The ideal Baker candidate has 1-2 years training and/or experience and is responsible to:
  • Folding and shaping doughs
  • Operating a deck oven and being able to bake to our standards.
  • Practice, monitor, and reinforce food safety procedures according to policy and health/sanitation regulations, follow recipes, portion controls
  • Manage and maintain a safe working condition
  • Has understanding and knowledge to properly use and maintain all equipment in station
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested by the Lead Baker.
  • Full training will be provided
What skills and experience you will need:
  • Minimum 1-2 years of baking experience in a commercial kitchen
  • Able to score breads
  • Reliable person with proven work ethic
  • Good initiative, be able to think for yourself
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Ability to maintain an organized work space
  • Ability to multi-task and work efficiently
  • Ability to pack bread from orders
  • Located in Miramar, Wellington
  • Week day and Weekend work required
  • Minimum 32 hours per week permanent role
  • Potential day/evening shift based on right candidate

Job Description:

PURPOSE
To bake really good bread and pastries, as well as a range of other items as needed.

To provide feedback to the Head Baker so we continuously improve the quality of the food we produce.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Practice, monitor, and reinforce food safety procedures according to policy and health/sanitation regulations, follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by the restaurant.
  • Manage and maintain safe working conditions whilst adhering to the Shelly Bay Baker food plan. Restock all items as needed throughout the shift.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested by the Head Baker
  • Making bread (mixing, shaping, baking).
  • Weighing dough ingredients.
GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Be punctual and work the hours and times specified.
  • Prioritise workload to ensure work of the greatest importance to the business is undertaken with urgency and to a high standard.
  • Demonstrate through own actions a commitment to Health and Safety at work when undertaking work or observing others in the workplace.
