About the role

This is the perfect role if you're ready to take your first step into engineering and want to work on projects that make a visible difference in your community.

As a graduate, you'll get hands-on experience across a wide range of roading and drainage projects while receiving support and mentoring from senior engineers.

You'll:
  • Build strong relationships with contractors and work alongside them in the field.
  • Learn to inspect and monitor maintenance, resurfacing, vegetation, and construction projects to ensure they meet Council standards.
  • Contribute to planning, sequencing, and delivering works programmes.
  • Monitor risks to scope, time, and budget, and report findings with evidence.
  • Support compliance by auditing health and safety practices and completing Traffic Management (TTM) audits.
  • Help keep our asset data and records up to date.
  • Provide advice and responses to community and elected member queries about roading issues.
  • Grow your ability to give technical guidance on roading standards and reinstatement work.

This is a fixed term – full-time role until 15 December 2026.

About you

We're after a graduate engineer who is:
  • Recently qualified with a bachelor level in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Eager to learn and develop technical expertise in roading and drainage.
  • Confident working with contractors and building positive professional relationships.
  • Detail-focused, with an eye for quality, compliance, and safety.
  • A good communicator – both in the field and in the office.
  • A full NZ drivers licence holder
