Restaurant & Bar Duty Manager

As Duty Manager, you will lead shifts, carry out opening and closing tasks, ensure standards are followed, and support the team to deliver consistently great service.
What we are looking for:- At least 1 year of experience in a commercial, fast-paced hospitality environment
- Basic food-handling knowledge
- Ability to handle pressure and remain calm in a busy service
- A love of great food and beverage, with a desire to learn about our offerings
- Ability to build rapport and develop strong relationships with a diverse clientele
- Strong attention to detail, with accurate verbal and written communication skills
- Passion for working in hospitality
- Team player with a positive, can-do attitude
- Punctuality, reliability, and motivation
- Commitment to achieving team goals
- Availability to work long weekends, holiday periods, and major Dunedin events
- Experience in supervising or managing a team is preferred, but not essential — if you bring the right attitude, we will support you to grow into the role.
As a Duty Manager at Ombrellos, you will:
- Be responsible for ensuring food cost and wage cost are managed efficiently, helping achieve business targets
- Assist the owner and manager in running day-to-day operations
- Complete daily cash-ups and ensure accuracy
- Open and close the bar/restaurant, following procedures
- Receive and check deliveries
- Conduct stocktakes and assist with ordering stock by comparing suppliers to secure the best prices
- Supervise and support staff, delegating tasks to maintain smooth service
- Ensure the premises are maintained to high standards inside and outside
- Ensure all daily checklists are completed
- Hold a General Manager’s Certificate at all times while on duty, if you do not have one currently we can help the right candidate to obtain one
- Maintain professional relationships with both kitchen and front-of-house teams
- Lead by example in delivering excellent customer service
Role: Duty Manager
Location: Ombrellos Kitchen & Bar, Dunedin
Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week, across 5–6 days (including weekends, public holidays, and nights)
Pay range: $25.00 – $35.00 per hour (depending on experience and ability)
