Paediatrics
Skills and experience that are desirable include experience working on call as a general paediatrician in NZ District hospitals, as well as experience seeing patients in clinic with a range of general paediatric medical and developmental conditions.
You will work 32 ordinary hours and will be required for on call duties on an average of 3.25 call back hours per week, on approximately a 1:8 on call roster. This is a hospital-based position with patient care responsibilities in general paediatrics, neonates, outpatients, and teaching of junior medical staff and medical students.You will:Be part of a team of 10 Consultants with 4 Registrars and 4 House Officers.Have responsibility for in-patient care and outpatient clinics.Work in a friendly environment with a collegial and supportive team.Have an interest in teaching and supervising junior medical staff.About the Team/Service/ LocationAt our outpatient clinics we see a total of 4500 patients per year.
We have a paediatric inpatient service with 18 beds, as well as a Level 2+ neonatal unit with 8 beds.Taranaki Base Hospital, located in New Plymouth, is the largest healthcare facility in the Taranaki region and serves as the hub for a wide range of medical and surgical services.Managed by Health New Zealand | Taranaki, the hospital provides emergency, maternity, mental health, oncology, and specialist outpatient care. It is also a teaching hospital, supporting the development of future healthcare professionals through student placements and clinical training.Complementing Base Hospital, Hāwera Hospital provides inpatient care, maternity services, a 24-hour emergency department, and a range of outpatient, community, and specialist services for South Taranaki.Together, these facilities deliver high-quality, patient-centred care and play a vital role in meeting the growing healthcare needs of the Taranaki region.
