Fitter/Welder Supervisor – Structural Steel

Join a well-established structural steel engineering company in Upper Hutt as a Fitter/Welder Supervisor in a permanent position. This is a critical leadership role at the heart of our operations – and we’re looking for someone who can bring experience, reliability, and strong leadership to the team.

As a Fitter/Welder Supervisor, you’ll lead a skilled team of tradespeople in our busy structural steel workshop. You’ll be responsible for ensuring high-quality fabrication and welding standards are met across all projects, maintaining safety, and keeping workflow on schedule.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone with strong experience in structural steel and a passion for getting the job done right.

What We're Looking For: Extensive experience in structural steel fabrication and welding

Proven background in supervising workshop teams
Strong understanding of engineering drawings and specifications
Exceptional knowledge of steel fabrication techniques, standards, and codes
Committed to maintaining a safe and efficient workshop environment
Ability to lead by example, mentor junior staff, and manage workloads
Skilled in problem-solving, decision-making, and communication

Reliable, proactive, and highly organised

Key Responsibilities: Oversee day-to-day operations in the fabrication workshop

Ensure all welding and fabrication work meets technical and safety standards
Manage job scheduling, materials, and staff resources
Lead and promote a strong health and safety culture
Liaise with project managers and engineers to meet deadlines and quality targets

Supervise, support, and train workshop staff
