Picton Manufacturing Marine & General Engineering is a locally owned family business that has been providing outstanding service to its clients for the past 30 years.

Our staff work in a diverse range of environments, from marine farms, shipping, forestry and rail yards, crusher plants.

We currently require a capable Maintenance Engineer / Fitter / Turner Machinist to join our small team.

To be considered for this role you will need:
  • Three years of experience in Engineering/Maintenance Fitter/Turner Machinist or a relevant qualification
  • Full Class 1 driver’s licence is essential
  • Ability to work as part of a small team as well as with minimal supervision
  • Effective written & oral communication skills
  • Able to prioritize tasks and follow specific procedures
Job Responsibilities
  • Work on manual lathes and mills as well as a variety of assembly tasks and breakdown support.
  • Repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and replacement of defective parts.
  • Apply knowledge and experience to provide training and guidance to apprentices and co-workers.
  • Set up and operate metal working machinery including but not exclusive to; welding machines, press brakes, rollers, guillotines, profile cutters, grinders, pedestal drills, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, weld and assemble metal components.
  • Manufacture products within set tolerances to a high standard, following engineering drawings and current company policies and procedures.
  • Apply knowledge and experience to perform required tasks efficiently, whilst following Health and Safety regulations and safe systems of work to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
  • Follow current company procedures to effectively track and manage time, materials and consumables.
  • Work independently to measure, design and draw items for manufacture.
  • Represent the business in a customer facing role, demonstrating competence and professionalism.
  • Provide mechanical maintenance services that meet our customers’ requirements.
  • Be expected to carry out any reasonable request.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Take ownership of your own quality and workmanship
  • Attendance – Be able to attend work on a daily basis and to the agreed hours.
  • Discipline – Self-disciplined and able to follow company policies and procedures.

The hours of work are predominately Monday to Friday but there will be weekend work as required by our clients and away from home at times when working shipping vessels (includes onboard whilst sailing and wet dock works in Picton & Wellington), guaranteed minimum of 40 hours per week.

Remuneration to be discussed with applicants depending on experience, overtime rates and away allowances to also be discussed with the right applicant.
