Position: Dairy Herd Manager
Location: Putaruru
Type: Full-time/Permanent
Pay Range: $32 to $37 per hour
Days: 11 on 3 off roster

Hours: Guaranteed at least 30 hours per week with standard hours of 55 hours per week

The Company: Our client is a well-established and forward-thinking dairy operation with over 25 years in the industry. Known for high standards in animal welfare, milk quality, and sustainable farming, the company is seeking a skilled Dairy Herd Manager to help drive operational excellence on a productive Putaruru-based farm.

Key Responsibilities

As a Dairy Herd Manager, your main responsibilities will include key aspects of herd and farm management. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing and performing efficient, hygienic milking operations
  • Monitoring herd health, treating illnesses, and supporting calving and calf rearing
  • Implementing pasture rotation and feed plans to maximise yield and animal condition
  • Operating and maintaining effluent systems in line with environmental compliance
  • Maintaining animal health records and ensuring accurate data entry into farm software (e.g. MINDA)
  • Operating farm machinery, including bikes and tractors, safely and effectively
  • Supervising and mentoring junior farm staff
  • Contributing to overall health and safety practices on the farm

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Three years of relevant work experience or a relevant qualification
  • Proven knowledge of milking systems, herd health, and pasture management
  • Competence in using farm software and maintaining accurate records
  • Good communication and time management skills
  • The ability to operate machinery safely and efficiently
  • Experience supervising or mentoring others (preferred)
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
  • Must have a clean police report with no charges pending.
