The centre bursts with creativity—from bright indoor spaces to lush outdoor play areas filled with real grass fruit trees veggie gardens and plenty of room to roam rain or shine thanks to our covered outdoor zones built for Taranaki’s ever-changing weather.

Children thrive in age-based rooms tailored to their growth stages enjoying enriching experiences like visits from the Puke Ariki mobile library Matariki gardening projects and termly catch-ups with kura teachers. And when it’s time for whanau picnics or cultural celebrations the whole community comes together to share the joy!

Lollipops Bell Block is looking our new master chef to feed and inspire our tamariki. In this role you’ll be responsible for preparing nutritious and balanced meals for Tamariki under 5 in a safe and hygienic environment. This role is 32 hours a week (Monday – Friday) and would suit someone with experience cooking delicious and healthy food in bulk.

You'll play a vital role in promoting healthy eating habits and a positive mealtime experience for our Tamariki fuelling them for a big day of learning! There’s space here for you to transform our menus – whether it's healthy eating garden to table or a particular area you excel in – you’ll have a chance to really make this role your own.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Meal Preparation: Cook healthy meals and snacks following the centre’s menu and dietary guidelines.
  • Menu Planning: Work with the Centre Manager and staff to create seasonal menus that meet children's nutritional needs and consider allergies.
  • Food Safety: Follow strict food safety and hygiene rules including correct food storage and handling.
  • Inventory Management: Keep track of supplies order what’s needed and ensure the kitchen is well-stocked.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the kitchen tidy and clean all utensils and equipment properly.
  • Communication: Work with Kaiako (Teachers) to understand children's food needs and make mealtimes enjoyable.
  • Education: Teach children about healthy eating and encourage them to try different foods.
Background and Experience:
  • Previous experience in cooking or food preparation preferably in an early childhood or aged care setting.
  • Knowledge of nutrition and dietary needs for young children.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and autonomously in a kitchen alone
