Workshop Technician

With new ownership taking effect on March 2nd, 2026, we are seeking a motivated, experienced Workshop Technician to join our team at STIHL Shop, Dunedin. This is a full-time role (40 hours per week) in a fast-paced, professional environment dedicated to world-class outdoor power equipment.
The Role
As our Workshop Technician, you won’t just be turning wrenches; you’ll be the heartbeat of our after-sales support. You will diagnose, service, and repair a wide range of small-engine and battery-powered equipment—from chainsaws and lawn mowers to advanced robotic iMow units.
Key Responsibilities Include:- Technical Excellence: Perform high-quality repairs, safety checks, and warranty work on gasoline, electric, and battery-powered tools.
- Workflow Management: Accurately document jobs, manage parts ordering, and use our service management systems to ensure efficient turnaround times.
- Customer & Sales Support: Provide technical advice to customers and support our sales team with your product expertise.
- Field Work: Occasionally head off-site for product installations, equipment pick-ups, and property appraisals.
- Safety First: Maintain a tidy workspace and ensure every piece of equipment is 100% safe before it leaves the shop.
- Proven mechanical aptitude with small engines or similar mechanical trades.
- Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical faults with a high level of accuracy.
- Independence: A self-starter who can manage their own workload without constant supervision.
- Communication: A professional manner when interacting with both colleagues and customers.
- Licensing: A valid New Zealand Class 1 Driver’s Licence is essential.
- Ability to confidently drive a manual vehicle.
- Towing: Experience or confidence in towing and reversing trailers is a significant advantage.
