  • Location: Wellington, Auckland or ChristchurchThe preferred location for this role is Wellington; however, we are open to considering strong candidates based in Auckland or Christchurch.Put your legal skills and experience to work, helping New Zealanders to be safe, strong and independentWe are seeking an enthusiastic lawyer with high levels of integrity and professionalism to join our supportive and collegial Litigation team, in providing quality legal services for the Ministry of Social Development.What you'll be doing | He aha tāu e mahi anaThe Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is involved in supporting New Zealanders through income, housing and employment supports.This permanent Lawyer role involves working collaboratively with other Lawyers and Senior Lawyers.
The Litigation team advises on the Ministry's response to Historic abuse litigation, social security litigation, privacy litigation, human rights complaints and other litigation including Royal Commission and Kaupapa Inquiries.
The role does not involve Court advocacy as Crown Law is instructed.The initial focus of this role is supporting the Ministry's response to Historic abuse claims.
