About the RoleAn exciting opportunity has arisen within the Women’s Health leadership team at one of the largest tertiary hospitals in the southern hemisphere. Waikato Hospital serves women requiring complex care from Hamilton city, the Waikato region, and from hospitals located in Te Manawa Taki region.As a Delivery Suite Clinical Midwife Manager, you will work with the Midwife Manager to:Provide clinical and professional leadership: providing clinical support, expertise, knowledge and leadership within the ward/unit/service to achieve quality patient care.Lead, support and co-ordinate the care team ensuring effective day to day coordination across the shifts (including the activities of medical, midwifery, nursing, allied, and non-clinical support staff), providing effective communication, teamwork and resource allocation.Promote and role model excellence in clinical practice and ensure provision of high-quality midwifery care.Risk manage clinical issues effectively.Provide the key interface for liaison with Lead Maternity Carers (LMCs).Escalate issues as required and ensure workflow processes maximise clinical safety.Provide administrative and operational management support to the Midwife Manager and will have delegated portfolios and areas of responsibility.Promote quality improvement initiatives, encourage patient safety reporting/response and participate in clinical reviews.

Assist in the establishment and promotion of clinical midwifery professional standards in the acute areas of Delivery Suite and Women’s Assessment Unit.Promote Turanga Kaupapa in all aspects of midwifery including enabling a culturally safe maternity environment.Provide direct care as required. About the teamThe Women’s Health team at Waikato Hospital serves a diverse population of urban and rural women from Hamilton city and the Waikato region with over five thousand births per annum. The families of our region have a range of superb primary birthing units to choose from and when complexity arises, they are also able to access care from the team at Waikato Hospital.
In joining the acute area team you will be based in Delivery Suite at Waikato Hospital, however you may be required to work in other areas of the Women’s Health Service, such as the maternity wards and women’s assessment unit. While this is a challenging environment, it is equally very rewarding and you will be part of a dedicated and supportive team.
