GP Liaison Counties Manukau Bowel Screening Programme

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking an experienced and passionate General Practitioner to become the clinical face and voice of the Counties Manukau Bowel Screening Programme.

This is a unique opportunity for a GP who enjoys working beyond the consulting room and wants to influence health outcomes at a system level. You will play a key leadership role connecting primary care, specialist services, programme teams, Maori and Pacific providers, and national stakeholders to improve participation, equity, and quality across the National Bowel Screening Programme.

About the Role

Reporting to the Programme Manager, you will be the primary clinical link between general practice and the Counties Manukau Bowel Screening Programme.

Working across South Auckland, you will:

Build and strengthen relationships with GPs, Nurse Practitioners, PHOs, practice teams, and community providers.
Represent the programme in primary care forums, clinical meetings, and stakeholder engagements.
Support quality improvement initiatives that improve participation and outcomes, particularly for Maori and Pacific communities.
Provide clinical advice and guidance to practices regarding bowel screening pathways and programme requirements.
Facilitate education, training, and awareness activities across the primary care sector.
Work closely with gastroenterology, endoscopy, radiology, pathology, nursing, and community outreach teams to strengthen participant pathways.

Contribute to regional and national bowel screening governance, quality assurance, and service development activities.

This role combines strategic leadership, relationship management, clinical credibility, and population health improvement.

About You

You are a respected and experienced GP who enjoys influencing systems and supporting others to succeed.

You will bring:

Current vocational registration as a General Practitioner.
Strong understanding and experience in primary care and the realities of general practice.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Confidence working with other clinicians, senior leaders, and community partners.
A commitment to achieving equitable health outcomes for Maori and Pacific peoples.
The willingness to influence, educate, and bring people together around a common purpose.

An interest in population health, quality improvement, prevention, and screening programmes.

Previous experience with the National Bowel Screening Programme, clinical governance, education, or quality improvement initiatives will be highly regarded.
