Position Summary
We are seeking expressions of interest from an experienced Asphalt and Chip Sealing Plant Operator/Labourer to join our Surfacing Team. This hands-on role involves operating various surfacing plant and equipment and contributing to asphalt and chip sealing operations across multiple regions.We want to hear from you if you can bring strong technical skills, a keen focus on quality, a safety mindset, and a collaborative approach to your work.
Key Requirements- Operate Chip Sealing truck with Roll Spreader attachment
- Perform asphalt labouring duties including:
- Operating asphalt paver
- Screed placement
- Asphalt compaction
- Operate Bitumen Sprayer (experience an advantage but not essential)
- Carry out daily pre-start checks and routine maintenance on all asphalt and chip sealing plant to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently
- Work cooperatively and efficiently with the Surfacing Manager, Supervisor/Foreman, and Traffic Control teams
- Demonstrate innovation and pride in workmanship
- Take personal responsibility for the health and safety of yourself and your team, including identifying and proactively managing hazards, and ensuring appropriate PPE is worn at all times
- Maintain full attention to Bitumen product safety requirements
- Actively participate in daily pre-start toolbox meetings
- Strong focus on quality finishing and attention to detail
- Proven problem solving skills and the ability to communicate clearly
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver results in a fast paced environment
- A willingness to take personal responsibility for the safety of self and others.
- Proven ability to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a small, high performing team
- Minimum of 2 years experience operating paving and/or chip sealing plant and machinery
- Proven experience operating a class 4 truck with roll spreader attachment
- Hold a current Class 4 licence
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and maintain a drug and alcohol free standard at work.
- Reporting to the Supervisor/Foreman and Surfacing Manager, you'll be based out of our Oamaru depot, with work undertaken across the Waitaki, South Canterbury, and the South and Central Otago regions
- This would be a full time, permanent position - primarily Monday - Friday, with occasional Saturday work as required
- The start date is flexible between now and September 2025.
