Drystock Farm Assistant
About the role
Pye Group is looking for a capable and motivated Drystock Assistant to join our livestock team, supporting the care and development of our heifers, replacement stock, and young stock across our dairy support operations in South Canterbury.
This is a hands-on, practical farming role where you’ll play an important part in growing healthy, well-managed stock that form the future of our dairy herds.

What you’ll be doing
In this role, you’ll work closely with the Young Stock Manager and wider farm team to ensure stock are healthy, well-fed, and developing to their full potential. Key responsibilities include:
- Daily monitoring of heifers, replacement stock, and young stock health and welfare
- Feeding out, break fencing, and ensuring consistent access to feed and water
- Assisting with weighing, drenching, vaccinations, and other animal health tasks
- Supporting stock movement and yard work as required
- Maintaining accurate animal records and supporting stock tracking systems
- General farm duties including fencing, irrigation shifts, and equipment upkeep
- Ensuring machinery and equipment are used safely and maintained correctly
- Following all health and safety procedures and using required digital tools/applications
- Some practical experience with livestock (dairy support or drystock preferred)
- A genuine interest in animal health, welfare, and farming systems
- Good communication and ability to work well in a team
- Reliability, initiative, and a strong work ethic
- Comfortable with hands-on, outdoor farm work in all conditions
- Basic understanding of farm health & safety practices (or willingness to learn)
