Wellington East Girls' College is seeking a dedicated Rowing Convenor to manage all operational aspects of our programme and foster a safe, positive, and successful environment for our student-athletes.

About the Role:

This key part-time role involves being the driving force on the ground for our rowing club. You will report to the Sports Director and work closely with the Rowing Committee.

What you'll be doing:
  • Operations & Leadership: Be the central point for our rowing programme, managing communications, coordinating with the committee, and overseeing day-to-day operations.
  • Budget & Fundraising: Manage the programme's finances and lead fundraising efforts in collaboration with the committee.
  • Student Engagement: Manage student participation, discipline, and pastoral care, fostering a supportive and inclusive team culture with support from the Sports Office, Teachers, and Senior Leaders.
  • On-the-Ground Management: Act as the person in charge at regattas and camps, supervising students and managing Health & Safety (H&S) and EOTC (Education Outside the Classroom) requirements. Some events may have support from teachers, which may not require the rowing convenor to attend ‘on-the-ground’.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all operational aspects of the rowing programme.
  • Manage the rowing budget and lead fundraising initiatives.
  • Supervise students at all events, managing their pastoral care and discipline in line with school policy.
  • Plan and lead 7 camps and attend all major regattas (excluding Maadi and NISS), totaling approximately 32 days away (includes weekends and stat holidays).
  • Ensure all activities comply with school EOTC and H&S policies.
  • Act as the central point for all communications between students, parents, coaches, and the school.
Hours & Pay:

This is a timesheet only position (approximately 500 hours per year, averaging around 10 hours per week (with more hours required during the peak season).

Remuneration is covered by the Support Staff in Schools' Collective Agreement, at Administration Grade 3. The current hourly rate for this grade ranges from $29.59 (Step 1) to $32.54 (Step 5), dependent on skills and experience.

As you will be working in a school environment, a satisfactory safety check (including police vetting) is required in accordance with the Education and Training Act 2020 and the Children’s Act 2014. This must be maintained at all times during employment
