We require House Officers to join our team.The Specialist Dental Unit provides a tertiary service to the Central North Island, serving a catchment population of approximately one million as part of Health New Zealand’s Te Manawa Taki region.

About the Role You will be working as part of a team of three house officers rotated through Adult Special Needs Dental and Paediatric Dental services while participating in a 1 in 5 on-call after-hours roster.
You will have exposure to all aspects of Hospital Dental Surgery including dental diagnosis and treatment planning, oral surgery, restorative dentistry, endodontics, and dental trauma. You will also work in Specialist Paediatric dental clinics and Adult Special Needs clinics.
Career progression within the Dental department is encouraged, and opportunities for Senior House Officer and Registrar positions are available for interested junior team members as part of their future planning. You will also work alongside the maxillofacial department in an on-call capacity.
Click here for Position Description - Dental House Officer About the Team/Service Waikato Hospital in Hamilton is a Level-1 trauma centre and one of New Zealand’s largest tertiary, teaching hospitals with over 600 inpatient beds and 22 operating theatres.
The Specialist Dental Unit provides a tertiary service to the Central North Island, serving a catchment population of approximately one million as part of Health New Zealand’s Te Manawa Taki region. Outpatient dental clinics are held daily, with regular theatre sessions for the provision of dental care under General Anaesthesia.
Dental House Officers will be embedded within the multidisciplinary teams involved with the management of oncology and cleft patients. The service is a regional centre for patients with complex health care needs requiring dental intervention.
The service is well-resourced with a departmental CBCT machine, 3D printer, OPG machine and access to maxillofacial prosthetic technicians. Visiting dental specialists from Orthodontics and Prosthodontics are involved in patient care and provide teaching to house officers.
Protected education sessions are held weekly with the unit having a strong emphasis on research and supporting second year house officers through college exams.
