Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the roleThe Electoral Commission is preparing for the 2026 General Election with a refreshed delivery model, responding to legislative changes and recommendations from independent audit reviews. These changes will significantly shape how voters experience enrolment and voting.As Senior Advisor, Channels, you'll play a pivotal role in supporting the Strategic Lead, Channels to deliver a comprehensive and effective Channel Action Plan for the 2026 General Election.

This plan is essential to informing and educating electors—especially new voters—across Aotearoa, ensuring they receive the right information, at the right time, through the right channels.This is a unique opportunity to apply your digital and strategic communications expertise in a values-driven, public-focused environment that empowers New Zealanders to confidently participate in our democracy.He aha tāu e mahi ana | What you'll be doing Supporting the design, development, and implementation of the Commission's Channel Action Plan, aligned to legislative changes and key programmes such as the Māori Electoral Option, Enrolment Update Campaign, and EasyVote delivery.

Being a key point of contact for business owners and teams across the Commission—building understanding of business needs, audiences, and desired outcomes. Gathering, analysing, and translating customer and business insights into channel planning and communications advice.
Helping to craft and deliver communications that resonate with a broad and diverse range of voters across multiple digital and non-digital platforms. Assisting with the development of tools, content, and processes to support channel implementation.
Monitoring the delivery of the plan to ensure effective execution and integrity of the electoral process. Supporting communication activities around other initiatives such as a potential referendum or electorate boundary changes.Ko ngā mea ka hiahiatia e koe kia angitū | What you'll need to succeed Strong communication skills, with experience writing and advising on communications that are clear, accessible, and audience focused.
An understanding of digital channels and how they can be effectively used to engage a broad range of customers. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and business owners to translate technical or complex information into clear and engaging content.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience using insights to support planning and decision-making. A proactive, can-do attitude with a commitment to delivering high-quality public information services.
