Days required: Monday to Sunday, on a rotating roster
Hours of work: A minimum of 30 hours per week, on rostered shifts.

Hourly rate: NZD $29–$31 per hour, depending on experience

Job Description:

We are seeking two experienced Chinese cuisine cooks to join our team at a busy buffet restaurant. The successful candidates will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of traditional Chinese dishes, ensuring food quality, hygiene, and presentation meet our restaurant standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspect and assess the quality of ingredients before use

Operate and monitor kitchen equipment (e.g., ovens, grills, fryers), adjusting settings as needed

Prepare and cook a range of Chinese meals following recipes and established standards

Season and adjust dishes to ensure optimal flavour during the cooking process

Portion and plate meals, including applying sauces and garnishes

Store food properly in temperature-controlled facilities to maintain freshness and safety

Prepare dishes that meet specific dietary needs (e.g., vegetarian, gluten-free, allergy-sensitive)

Assist in planning menus and estimating food quantities for inventory when required

May help train and supervise junior kitchen staff to maintain kitchen efficiency and standards

Skills and Experience Required:

Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a Chinese kitchen

Proficiency in traditional Chinese cooking methods

Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment

Strong sense of hygiene and food safety practices

Reliability and punctuality in a fast-paced kitchen
