Rangatahi Ora - Kaimahi
Dunedin
Te Hou Ora Whanau Services (THO) is an unapologetically Maori provider of community and social services. Walking alongside nga hapori o Otepoti since 1976, we provide support across a continuum of services designed to meet the needs and aspirations of tamariki, rangatahi, and whanau.
We have a strong reputation for our mahi, particularly our work with rangatahi Maori.
We are looking for a Kaimahi / youth worker to join our team and help deliver our after-school club-based programme. Rangatahi Ora provides safe, fun, kaupapa Maori spaces where tamariki and rangatahi (7–14) can connect with each other, explore their identity, strengthen wellbeing, and simply enjoy being tamariki.
This role is 20 hours per week and involves facilitating three sessions per week, alongside programme planning, notes, and administration. Additional time may be required over school holidays for camps, team development noho and holiday programmes.
As Kaimahi you will:- Facilitate weekly club sessions for tamariki and rangatahi, creating safe, playful, and mana-enhancing environments.
- Build strong, positive relationships with tamariki, whanau, and community partners.
- Support tamariki to co-create their kawa and moemoea for the term and to reflect on their growth.
- Deliver activities that align with Te Manawa o Te Hauora values: Tika, Pono, Aroha, and Mana Motuhake.
- Work alongside the Rangatahi Ora team to plan, reflect, and ensure high-quality delivery.
- Complete programme notes, admin, and reporting as required.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who brings enthusiasm, a warm wairua and a desire to grow for working with tamariki and rangatahi. The ideal person will:- Have experience working with tamariki, rangatahi, or whanau in a youth development, education, or community setting.
- Bring strong relationship-building skills and a natural ability to connect with young people.
- Hold an existing understanding of te ao Maori and matauranga Maori, or a connection to Maori communities.
- Have strong communication skills across ages, able to clearly and warmly engage with parents, tamariki and other kaimahi.
- Holds a full, clean drivers licence, preferably with an ability to drive manual vehicles.
- Share our values of Tika, Pono, Aroha, and Mana Motuhake, and reflect these in their mahi.
