About the Role

This Registrar position is ideally suited for an advanced Renal trainee and is RACP accredited for 24 months. 12 or 24 month positions available. We also welcome applications from early Renal trainees.

Working alongside experienced senior Nephrologists within a dynamic and collaborative multidisciplinary team, trainees gain extensive hands-on experience across acute and outpatient settings, managing a diverse patient population with complex comorbidities.

Senior trainees have the opportunity to refine their skills in key procedures, including tunnelled dialysis line insertion and renal biopsy.

A strong commitment to education ensures registrars actively engage in professional development, contributing to the renal journal club, hospital-based teaching programs, and key discussions such as renal morbidity and mortality meetings, vascular access forums, renal pathology reviews, and transplant listing meetings.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Northland Renal service provides comprehensive care for 150 haemodialysis patients across Whangarei and two satellite units in the mid and far north. There is a major subspecialty interest in home dialysis, supporting up to 20 home haemodialysis patients and 40 peritoneal dialysis patients, many of whom live in remote and challenging rural environments.

Renal transplant recipients number approximately 110 and live donor evaluations coordinated in collaboration with the Auckland Regional Transplant Group. The service has a strong subspecialty interest in vasculitis management, including lupus and ANCA vasculitis.

Additionally, specialist Renal Dietetics services oversee renal nutrition care, with Consultant-led expertise extending to the regional urolithiasis metabolic workup service.

A growing commitment to nephrology research has led to participation in multiple multinational randomized controlled trials.
