Mō te tūranga | About the roleThis is a unique leadership role focused on building a strong, nationally consistent operational policy practice for conservation regulation.While this role does not have formal people leadership responsibilities, it is expected to provide thought and technical leadership to the team.
You'll mentor and guide others by virtue of your expertise, helping to lift capability and confidence across the regulatory system.Your work will span multiple work areas
- commercial, legal, and operational
- and touch every part of the business.You'll be instrumental in:Designing and developing operational policy and procedures for DOC's regulatory systemEmbedding consistent practices and tools across the motuBuilding machinery of government expertise across the teamSupporting delivery of Ministerial priorities across Regulatory ServicesLeading a team through change, and navigating complex, sometimes challenging, policy terrainEnsuring our operational policy function supports DOC's evolving regulatory roleNgā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experienceWe're looking for a pragmatic professional with deep expertise in regulatory environments and an understanding of how government works.
You'll be commercially savvy, intellectually curious, and confident engaging with iwi, stakeholders, and senior leaders.You'll also bring:Proven experience in operational policy leadership, ideally in a regulatory or government settingStrong strategic thinking and analytical skillsAbility to coach and develop others, and lead with influenceExperience working across complex systems and navigating sensitive issuesA collaborative mindset and commitment to DOC's values and Treaty obligationsGiven the collaborative nature of the role, you will be office-present most days to enable cross-functional engagement.
