Join Our Civil Construction Team as a Qualified Drainlayer
Location: Dunedin (regional projects across Otago)
We are seeking a skilled, motivated, and reliable Qualified Drainlayer to join our civil construction crew. This role is hands-on and team-focused, with opportunities to work across a variety of infrastructure projects that support local communities.The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical competence, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work collaboratively in an inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities- Install, test and commission underground drainage systems, including stormwater, sewer and associated pipework to industry and council standards.
- Read and interpret plans, levels and specifications; set out work and ensure accurate alignment and falls.
- Operate excavation plant, trenching equipment and hand tools safely and efficiently where required.
- Prepare and reinstate trenches, surrounds and backfill in accordance with project specifications and environmental requirements.
- Install manholes, chambers, service connections and associated product fittings to specification.
- Perform pressure and leak testing, CCTV inspection coordination, and complete required QA documentation and as-built records.
- Collaborate with site supervisors, civil teams and subcontractors to sequence work and meet project timelines.
- Maintain clean, safe and organised work areas; identify and report hazards and participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Relevant qualification or certification as a Qualified Drainlayer (or equivalent recognised credential).
- Proven experience installing drainage systems in civil construction settings.
- Competence in interpreting engineering drawings, levels and specifications.
- Practical experience operating small plant (e.g. excavators, skid steers) and hand tools; NZ heavy machinery tickets an advantage.
- Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental compliance on site.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a diverse team.
- Physically fit and able to perform manual work in outdoor conditions.
- A full, valid New Zealand driver’s licence is essential.
Permanent, full-time employment: Minimum 40 hours per week.
