Quantity Surveyor / Estimator – Commercial Roofing

placeChristchurch calendar_month

If you’re an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Estimator who’s ready for something new; more ownership, more variety, and the chance to genuinely influence how projects are delivered this could be the perfect next step.

Newfield Roofing is an established Commercial Roofing Company with a steady stream of interesting projects across the South Island. Our commercial team is growing so we’re looking for someone who enjoys both the front-end estimating work and being involved through delivery to final account.

If you’re someone who likes to really understand a project, keep things running smoothly, and build strong relationships along the way—you’ll fit right in.

Why You’ll Love This Role
  • Mix of Estimating + QS work - no being stuck behind a desk doing only take-offs.
  • You’ll have autonomy - while still being supported by a tight-knit team.
  • Your ideas matter - we encourage improvements, smarter processes and better ways of delivering projects.
  • You’ll work on a variety of commercial builds or reroof projects - not just repetitive low-value work.
  • We value balance - site visits, office time, client interaction and a manageable workload for work/life balance
What You’ll Be Doing
Pre-Construction / Estimating
  • Support the Estimator in evaluating incoming tenders and pricing requests by reviewing drawings, specifications and scope.
  • Completing accurate material and labour take-offs using industry software.
  • Working with suppliers to confirm pricing and get competitive rates.
  • Present quotes to clients and support through to contract award
Project Setup & Procurement
  • Setting up projects in Job Management Software
  • Creating programmes and coordinating required resources
  • Procuring long-lead time materials
  • Leading clear, well-organised handover meetings with the Operations team
Commercial Management During Delivery
  • Measuring and pricing variations quickly and accurately
  • Visiting sites to track progress and stay connected with the install
  • Preparing accurate monthly progress claims
  • Updating financials, forecasts, and programmes
Project Close-Out
  • Preparing warranty documentation
  • Creating final accounts and managing retentions
What You’ll Bring
  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor or QS/Estimator—ideally in commercial construction.
  • Strength in cost breakdowns, measurement, and commercial administration.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and problem-solve with practical thinking.
  • Confidence communicating with clients, suppliers, and site teams.
  • Strong organisational skills, accuracy, and pride in your work.
  • Experience with industry standard softwares and digital tools
What We Offer
  • A genuinely supportive team where you’re trusted and valued.
  • Competitive salary tailored to your experience.
  • Freedom to shape how you work and the chance to build and refine new systems that make our good business even better.
