St Matthew’s Collegiate - Science Technician (PT)

Responsible to: Head of Department – Science

• Hours: 4 hours per week, during term time only (days and times are flexible and can be agreed upon appointment)

• Prepare, deliver, and collect laboratory equipment and materials for science lessons.
• Clean and maintain equipment and ensure laboratories are left tidy and safe.
• Arrange repairs and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Prepare chemical solutions and maintain accurate stock records of equipment and chemicals.
• Operate an efficient system for storing, distributing, and returning science materials.
• Assist the Head of Science with ordering, resource management, and departmental administration as required.
• Obtain and care for living specimens, plants, and other materials used in experiments.
• Ensure safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and biological materials in line with the HSNO Act and school safety policies.
• Maintain technician areas to a high standard of cleanliness and safety.
• Liaise with science technicians in other schools when appropriate.

• Experience working in a science or laboratory environment (school-based experience an advantage).
• A good understanding of health and safety procedures in a science setting.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
