The Fruit Production Supervisor will be responsible for supervising daily orchard operations to ensure efficient fruit growing, crop quality, staff productivity, and compliance with company standards. Key duties include:
Supervising and coordinating orchard workers engaged in pruning, thinning, training vines/trees, harvesting, picking, packing support, and general orchard maintenance activities.Monitoring crop development, fruit quality, maturity levels, pest or disease issues, irrigation performance, and reporting production progress to management.
Planning and allocating daily work schedules, assigning tasks to staff, and ensuring seasonal targets are achieved within required timeframes.
Training new and existing employees in horticulture techniques, safe work procedures, quality standards, and correct use of orchard tools and machinery.
Ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety procedures, hazard management, PPE requirements, and safe operation practices in accordance with New Zealand regulations.
Inspecting and monitoring orchard equipment, tractors, sprayers, bins, ladders, and tools to ensure safe and efficient daily operations.
Coordinating with contractors, machinery operators, and management regarding spraying programmes, fertiliser application, irrigation cycles, and harvesting logistics.
Maintaining daily production records including staff timesheets, output records, spray diaries, chemical usage logs, and harvest reports.
Ensuring fruit is picked, handled, graded, packed, and stored in accordance with market/export quality requirements and company procedures.
Supervising seasonal and peak workforce requirements, including onboarding and monitoring temporary or RSE workers during harvest periods.
Assisting management with labour planning, productivity improvements, orchard block performance reviews, and implementation of efficient work systems.
Ensuring compliance with company quality assurance systems, food safety standards, and industry requirements such as GLOBALG.A.P. where applicable.
Liaising with management regarding staffing needs, crop forecasts, harvest readiness, and operational priorities.
Maintaining high standards of orchard presentation, cleanliness, and general upkeep of work areas.
Minimum Requirements:
At least 2 years relevant work experience, orNZQCF Level 4 or higher qualification
Pay Rate: $28 – $33.00 per hour (depending on experience)Hours of Work: 32 – 40 hours per week
