The Opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Workshop Foreman to join our team and lead the day-to-day operations of our busy workshop.

You’ll be responsible for managing daily work allocation to mechanics, supporting the Workshop Manager, and ensuring all Health & Safety procedures are followed.

This hands-on role will see you working across our diverse fleet – diesel, petrol, and electric buses – and playing a key role in maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance.

About Us

Ritchies is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading passenger transport companies, with a team of more than 2,000 people providing public transport, school bus, and charter services across the country.

We’re proud to be part of the move toward a more sustainable, low-emission transport future, as we continue to decarbonise our fleet and invest in new technologies.

About the Role

As Workshop Foreman, you’ll:
  • Manage the day-to-day running of the workshop and allocate work to mechanics.
  • Support and guide mechanics and apprentices, providing mechanical and technical assistance as required.
  • Undertake maintenance and repair work on diesel, petrol, and electric buses.
  • Detect and diagnose faults in engines, mechanical parts, and EV systems.
  • Service and repair air conditioning, heating, and demister systems.
  • Ensure Health Safety standards are always met, maintaining a tidy and compliant workshop.
  • Work with suppliers and maintain stores, spares, and inventory records.
  • Oversee and maintain accuracy in the Vehicle Management System (VMS) and scheduling software.
  • Accurately complete and submit job cards and records for all fleet vehicles.
  • Be available for rostered on-call duties (one week on, one week off).

About You

You’re a motivated and experienced mechanic ready to take the next step in your career. You lead by example, communicate effectively, and take pride in a well-run, safe, and efficient workshop.

You’ll bring:
  • NZQA Level 4 or higher in Heavy Automotive Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with diesel and electric vehicles.
  • A clean NZ Driver’s Licence (Class 1, 2, 4, and P Endorsement preferred).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organisational, record-keeping, and leadership abilities.
  • A positive, team-focused attitude and commitment to Health & Safety.
What You’ll Get
  • Supportive and collaborative team environment.
  • Career growth and leadership development opportunities.
  • Fortnightly pay.
  • All relevant PPE provided.
  • Flexible hours (by consultation).

At Ritchies, we value safety, teamwork, and excellence in everything we do. Pre-employment checks include drug testing, Ministry of Justice checks, and reference checks.
