Stand at the stern of the canoe and feel the spray of the future biting at your face Mō te tūnga | About the role As Senior Data Analyst, you will play a key role in creating, implementing, and assessing harm reduction and prevention strategies across New Zealand.
To support the delivery of this outcome the Senior Data Analyst will ensure meaningful and accurate data analysis, and clear, concise reporting that enables planning and supports informed decision making. You will work collaboratively and seamlessly with others in multidisciplinary teams and to deliver integrated, high quality and innovative work.
Key Accountabilities: Develop and produce regular reporting and dashboards that are appropriate and relevant to the needs of the audience(s) for whom they are intended. Ensure reporting covers interpretations of trends and recommendations. Manage large data sets from multiple sources and work collaboratively and seamlessly across the group and wider business to understand the availability and limitations of the data.
Develop responsibility for both regular ongoing queries and ad-hoc data related queries from the wider Prevention workgroup. Employ excellent analytical skills to work with both quantitative and qualitative data, using internal police systems such as NIA (National Intelligence Application, Business Objects, SAS) and packages such as (R, Excel, PowerBI, NVIVO) to automate processes looking at data patterns.
ArcGIS desirable, but not essential. Support Data Analyst(s) in their role to analyse large data sets and quality assure their reports. Mentor analysts to help develop their knowledge and skills in evidence-based practices. Identify opportunities for system improvements in the use of reporting tools and processes and liaise with other subject matter experts to lift the capability across the business.

Develop skills in problem-solving (understanding of the SARA problem solving model desirable) to harm prevention, and ‘Crime Prevention through Environmental Design' (CPTED). We are looking for someone who has: Excellent quantitative and qualitative skills with experience in data processing and analytic tools (R, Excel and PowerBI. NVIVO and ArcGIS desirable but not essential). Experience in developing dashboards and reports from large data sets Experience in the use and application of Police systems, databases and tools (National Intelligence Application, Business Objects, SAS desirable, but not essential).
Strong and effective communication with managers, amongst colleagues and external agencies Experience building relationships and partnerships (internal and external) where trust and confidence is built, and information is shared effectively.
