Are you an experienced physiotherapist with a passion for rehabilitation? We have an exciting opportunity to join our Older Persons and Rehabilitation (OPR) team at Waikato Hospital—a place where you'll make a real difference in patients’ lives while working alongside a collaborative, interdisciplinary team.

About the Role:This full-time, permanent physiotherapy position offers the chance to work within our Older Persons and Rehabilitation service , where you’ll be at the heart of patient recovery. As part of a cohesive, interdisciplinary team, you’ll assess, treat, and coordinate care for patients undergoing rehabilitation after major surgeries, neurological conditions, and medical related events.We are looking for an experienced physiotherapist who not only brings clinical expertise but also leadership qualities.

You’ll be instrumental in supervising and mentoring less experienced clinicians, students, and allied health assistants, while ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-cantered care.Your ability to build strong working relationships with team members—including unit managers—is key to ensuring coordinated care while balancing broader hospital pressures and patient flow needs.

Key Responsibilities:Conduct thorough assessments and design personalized rehabilitation programs for patients.Work closely with an interdisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, holistic patient care.Mentor and support junior clinicians, students, and allied health assistants.Contribute to the ongoing improvement of rehabilitation practices within the unit.Stay current with rehabilitation literature and evidence-based practices to optimise patient outcomes.Balance time pressures, case load demands and non-clinical activities with expert time management skills.This is a full-time position, requiring 80 hours per fortnight (Monday to Friday).

There’s also the opportunity to participate in an on-call weekend respiratory roster for additional exposure and to build/maintain your acute respiratory skills. About the Team/ServiceThe OPR Physiotherapy Service at Waikato Hospital is a close-knit, highly skilled team that provides specialised care across a variety of rehabilitation populations including within the Out-patient rehabilitation gym .

Our team caters to stroke care, geriatric and orthopaedic, and neuro-rehabilitation, providing the opportunity for diverse and rewarding clinical experiences.
