Retail Assistant Manager

Position Overview:We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Retail Assistant Manager to join our team in Te Anau. This role supports the Store Manager in overseeing daily operations, ensuring outstanding customer service and maintaining smooth management of our retail department.
The ideal candidate is customer-focused, organised and motivated to help our team deliver an exceptional outdoor retail experience.
Key Responsibilities: Assist the Store Manager in all aspects of daily operations, including sales, merchandising and supervising the team.
Leading the Te Anau store's goods-in and stock management processing.Lead and motivate team members to achieve sales targets and provide excellent customer service.
Support with the management and coordination of hiking gear rentals, ensuring equipment is well-maintained and properly tracked.
Handle customer inquiries, complaints and returns in a professional and solution-focused manner.
Contribute to visual merchandising and ensure the store is clean, well-presented and fully stocked.
Help train and develop staff in product knowledge, sales techniques and customer service standards.
Open and close the store as required, including cash handling and end-of-day reconciliation.
Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety standards and store procedures.
Provide full store leadership and operational oversight during the Store Manager’s annual leave or absence
Skills & Qualifications: Previous retail supervisory or assistant management experience (outdoor retail experience preferred).
Strong leadership and communication skills.Passion for the outdoors and knowledge of our outdoor equipment.
Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities.
Reliable, flexible and able to work evenings, weekends and public holidays when required.
Experience in sales, Cin7 Omni Inventory software & Shopify POS.
Organised and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
The successful applicant must have accommodation in Te Anau.
Ideally experience with Hunting and Fishing licences and clean gear certificates.
Fit enough to do a lot of heavy lifting.
