What this new role looks like:-

This is a pivotal new leadership role with dedicated responsibility for setting the standard for driver capability, training excellence, and compliance across Hilton Haulage.

As Driver Performance Manager, you will design, lead, and embed a best-practice driver training and competency framework that is consistent, scalable, and audit-ready across the business.

You'll recruit, lead and develop a team of Driver Trainers (2 initially with further team growth anticipated), ensuring training programmes, assessments, and compliance standards are delivered consistently and effectively across all operations.

This role is both strategic and hands-on – defining what "good" looks like while staying connected to field delivery, using data and insights to drive continuous improvement in driver safety, performance, and professionalism.

What you bring to the table:-
  • Class 5 Licence with I (Instructor) Endorsement - essential
  • Proven experience in driver training, assessment, and transport operations
  • Strong leadership capability with experience managing and developing teams
  • Deep understanding of NZTA regulations, compliance, and industry best practice
  • Experience designing training frameworks, competency systems, and structured pathways
  • Data-driven mindset – able to translate insights into meaningful action
  • Strong communication, and relationship building skills with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Proactive with a high level of organisation, exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to excellence

Your impact:-

You'll play a critical role in lifting driver capability and safety performance across the fleet by:
  • Establishing a national driver training and compliance framework
  • Leading and mentoring a high-performing team of Driver Trainers
  • Ensuring training systems are robust, auditable, and aligned with regulatory requirements
  • Using data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement
  • Driving initiatives that improve safety, fuel efficiency, and driver behaviour
  • Partnering with operations to ensure training supports productivity, individual growth and development, retention and enhanced customer outcomes
