Chef – Gillies Hospital

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated, reliable and experienced Chef who has a passion for food and is keen to take the next step in their career by joining our team.

This position is based at Gillies Hospital in Epsom, Auckland where we are committed to providing restaurant quality meals (a la carte) and catering for special dietary requirements on request. Gillies Hospital is part of the Southern Cross group and is designed with a focus on short stay surgery and family-centered care, with four theatres, a purpose-built day-stay facility and 16 inpatient beds with ensuite facilities.

You will be involved in all aspects of food preparation, taking patient orders and delivering meals to rooms, whilst keeping the kitchen clean and tidy. From 2:00pm onwards you will take charge of the kitchen to prepare and serve the evening meal.

In addition, you will be rostered on every other Saturday from 6:00am – 10:00am to prepare and serve breakfast to patients. This role requires great communication skills as you will be interacting with your team, patients and hospital staff.

This position is a pivotal part of our team and requires a cook with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience who can:
  • Assist with the preparation, cooking and serving of a-la-carte restaurant quality food for patients and staff
  • Show an interest in developing skills further
  • Discuss food preparation issues with managers and kitchen staff
  • Show knowledge of dietary requirements and allergens,
  • Monitor quality of food at all stages of preparation and presentation
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, safe and hazard free environment
  • Work at a high level without supervision
  • Be friendly and engaging and know what it means to deliver outstanding customer service
