Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook a diverse range of Indian dishes, including starters (samosas, pakoras), mains (tandoori items, biryanis, curries), breads (naan, roti) and desserts (gulab jamun, kheer)
  • Maintain consistent taste, presentation and portion control by following recipes and plating standards
  • Oversee mise en place during busy service periods: chopping, marinating, spice blend preparation and dough making
  • Monitor and rotate stock, assist with ordering ingredients to ensure freshness and minimise waste
  • Adhere to HACCP food safety, hygiene and health regulations at all times
  • Collaborate with front of house and management to cater for special dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, allergies)
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff, sharing expertise in spice blends, cooking methods and plating techniques

Requirements
  • Minimum one year of professional cooking experience in a commercial kitchen
  • In depth knowledge of regional Indian cooking methods, spices and ingredient selection
  • Ability to perform efficiently under pressure during peak service times
  • Excellent knife skills, time management and a collaborative approach
  • NZ work rights and current food safety certification (or willingness to obtain)
