About the role :
The Commercial Manager is responsible for the contractual, financial, and risk management functions of our construction projects.
He or she demonstrates focus on customer relationships and securing work while managing and ensuring all projects are controlled in line with financial return and profitability.
The Commercial Manager must lead by example, visibly demonstrate the application of our values, champion our ‘Inside the Box’ culture, and provide day-to-day guidance and mentoring of team members.
Finally, the Commercial Manager must, directly and indirectly, contribute towards our determination to deliver projects safely and profitably with a view to achieving and exceeding annual EBIT targets.
Skills:
- Essential; Bachelor’s Degree: A degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Business Administration or a related field.
- Desirable; Membership of certification from a recognised professional body such as the New Zealand institute of Quantity Surveyors (NZIQS)
- At least 7-10 years of experience in commercial management or quantity surveying.
- Proven experience under early contractor involvement (ECI) or design & build contract conditions, including commercial management through design and pre-construction periods.
- Proven experience in managing multiple large-scale construction projects from inception to completion, including budgeting, cost control, and contract administration.
- Experience in managing client relationships, including negotiating contracts, handling disputes, and ensuring client satisfaction.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare detailed reports and present findings to stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make sound decisions.
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills.
