The successful applicant's core role would mean that they require experience in operating tractors along with a range of implements and possess at least a basic knowledge of agriculture and livestock farming in New Zealand.

Experience operating precision farming technology, front and rear mounted mowers, trucks, an excavator, and grain handling equipment would also be beneficial. The successful applicant must be capable of maintaining and running a variety of agricultural machinery and would also be happy doing other projects, general farm maintenance and help-out on occasions with the handling and shifting of livestock during times (largely due to the weather) or seasons when tasks involving the farm machinery is not required (or able) to be performed.

The ideal applicant would be a non-smoker, enjoy variety in their role and be responsible for monitoring the status of various farm vehicles and equipment in regards to servicing and maintenance and understand the importance of using a grease gun to reduce the likelihood of incurring costly and untimely repairs in the future.

Basic mechanical skills would also be useful, as the successful applicant may be required to service equipment and perform basic repairs at times, although training could be provided in this area.

There would also be an opportunity for a spouse and/or suitably responsible working-age children to be employed on a casual basis performing tasks such as feeding calves, relief milking and/or other jobs around the farm. Dairy farm milking 650 cows through a rotary dairy shed automatic cup removers, protrack and cow collars.

The two properties are located five minutes east of Wyndham and are about a half-hour drive from Gore or Invercargill. A valid drivers licence allowing you to legally drive on New Zealand's public roads must also be held and will be required to be sighted.

The successful applicant will be conscious of health and safety on-farm and be capable of passing a drug/alcohol test.

Renumeration will be hourly and competitive. Roster can be made flexible depending on other family or spouse time-off/job requirements, although your role will require some degree of flexibility in accordance with tractor work and the weather at certain times of the year.

We typically operate a 1-day-off per week roster during the busy period (that is spring) and a 2-day-off per week roster for the remainder of the year.

This role would be ideally suited to someone with a rural background who may have worked for an agricultural contractor in the past and is after more consistent year-round work or a slightly greater level of involvement from a farming perspective.
