Legal Executive or Property Lawyer - Christchurch

A position has opened up in our firm for an experienced Legal Executive or Property Lawyer/Conveyancer to join us on a full-time basis from 9:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday.

Andrew & Juenith McIntosh Lawyers (also known as Sydenham Law) has been operating since 1985, primarily in the area of property law. We are a small boutique law firm and have built up a sizeable client base for our legal services. Our clients value our easy-going, personalized approach to providing legal services, and the strong relationships we develop with our clients.

We are looking for a staff member who can join our team and help us deliver honest legal services to our clients at a fair price.

The successful candidate will be working at our Sydenham based office, primarily in conveyancing and estate administration, as well as managing general office administration. The candidate will be assisting the principal solicitor with property settlements, managing their own client estate files and jointly or individually managing conveyancing files, filing client deeds, organizing appointments, as well as liaising with clients at reception, via email, and over the phone.

As the legal sector is ever changing, your duties in this role will be varied and will require some flexibility on your part.

To be a successful applicant for this position, we are looking for candidates who have:
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working in a legal office.
  • Experience with undertaking property settlements in Landonline.
  • Experience in reviewing and preparing conveyancing paperwork including Agreements for Sale & Purchase and Settlement Statements.
  • A solid knowledge of New Zealand property law and conveyancing requirements, including corporate and trust clients.
  • Experience with corporate banking and same-day-cleared payments for property settlements, as well as a fundamental understanding of Trust Accounting.
  • Familiarity with estate administration, including the process for obtaining a Grant of Probate, and familiarity with the High Court Rules in relation to the administration of estates.
  • Experience in the use of Legal Practice Management Systems.
  • Experience in drafting legal deeds including Wills and Enduring Powers of Attorney.
  • Knowledge of Anti-Money Laundering (AML/CFT) compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of PDF Editing and Digital Signing solutions including Adobe Sign.
  • Experience in Video Communications Technology including Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Experience with standard photocopying/Scanning and document management procedures.
  • A Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • A friendly disposition and positive attitude.
  • A high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and a confident phone manner.
  • A strong work ethic.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage tasks assigned and to prioritize your individual workload.
